The artwork, Water, is a public representation that was carried out in connection with the construction of Axåker's school in 2023. The work began when Jon Gredmark was assigned in the fall of 2022 and was completed when the finished artwork was inaugurated in the fall of 2023. In the initial phase of the project, Gredmark stayed for a week in Pedersöre where, together with the children who would become students in the new school, he worked with visual arts under the theme of animals and plants that are or could be found in the sea.
The result was 170 drawings created by the children which then served as the basis and inspiration when Gredmark began the creation of the public artwork. In connection with the opening of the artwork, Gredmark arranged an exhibition in collaboration with Pedersöre municipality and Axåker's school where the students' drawings were displayed, after which the works were returned to the students. Technique for the artwork is woodcut. On a black-painted surface, Gredmark has cut out motifs and images which are a mixture of his and the students' visual worlds and deal largely with creation and creativity.
In the work with the artwork, participation and inclusion have been keywords. Gredmark's ambition has been to create a work of art not only for Axåker's students but also with them.
